The Employment Rights Act is bringing a number of changes for employers, with some already in force and more coming from 30 October.

For business owners, it can be difficult to keep track of what has changed, what is coming next, and what you actually need to do differently.

Statutory Sick Pay has changed. Paternity Leave and Unpaid Parental Leave are now day-one rights, and employers have new holiday record-keeping requirements. From 30 October, there are further changes around areas including sexual harassment and trade unions.

Knowing about the changes is one thing.

Making sure your business is ready for them is another.

What does this mean for your business?

You don't necessarily need to become an employment law expert. But you do need to know whether the changes have affected the way you manage your people.

For example:

  • Have your HR policies been updated?

  • Are you keeping the records you need to keep?

  • Do your managers know what has changed?

  • Are your existing HR processes still suitable?

  • Is there anything you've missed that could cause problems later?

It's easy for these things to get pushed down the to-do list when you're busy running a business.

Find out where your business stands

We've created a free Employment Rights Act Readiness Survey to help you quickly see where you stand.

It takes just a few minutes to complete and you don't need to provide any contact details to get your results.

The survey looks at what you currently have in place and gives you a simple Red, Amber or Green result.

You'll be able to see:

  • Which areas you're already on top of

  • Where you may have some gaps

  • What those gaps could mean for your business

  • What you should look at next

You don't need to know all the details of the Employment Rights Act before you start. The survey is designed to help you identify the areas that may need your attention.

With more changes coming into force from 30 October, it's worth taking a few minutes now to check that your business is ready.
